Domain 1: Connect to and Transform Data
- Connect to files (Excel, CSV, JSON, PDF, spatial), databases, and published data sources from the Connect pane.

- Understand the Tableau data model: the logical layer uses relationships (flexible, context-aware) while the physical layer uses joins inside a logical table.
- Relationships differ from joins - they do not force a single join type and avoid the duplication or dropped rows that joins can cause - so prefer them unless you need a specific join.
- Joins (inner, left, right, full outer) combine columns and can change row counts; unions append rows from tables with the same structure.
- Data blending links separate data sources on a common field (primary and secondary) and is used when sources are at different levels of detail or already published.
- Reshape data with Pivot (columns to rows), Split and Custom Split, folders, hierarchies, groups, and bins.

Domain 2: Explore and Analyze Data
- Write calculated fields; a calculation is either row-level or aggregate, and you cannot mix an aggregate and a non-aggregate in one expression.
- Use aggregate functions (SUM, AVG, COUNT, COUNTD, MIN, MAX, MEDIAN, ATTR) and logical functions (IF/ELSEIF, CASE, IIF, ISNULL, IFNULL, ZN).
- Level of Detail expressions control the granularity of an aggregate: {FIXED} ignores the view's dimensions, {INCLUDE} adds a dimension, and {EXCLUDE} removes one.
- Remember the order of operations: a FIXED LOD is computed before dimension filters (so it ignores them) but after context filters (so it respects them).
- Table calculations compute on the query result in the view - Running Total, Percent of Total, Rank, Difference, Moving Average - and depend on the layout.
- Control a table calculation with Compute Using / partitioning and addressing (Table, Pane, Cell, or specific dimensions); functions include RUNNING_SUM, WINDOW_SUM, INDEX, RANK, LOOKUP, and TOTAL.
- Filters apply in a set order: extract, data source, context, dimension, FIXED LOD, measure, then table-calculation filters.
- A context filter creates a temporary subset, which is what makes a Top N filter or a FIXED LOD operate within that subset.
- Add analytics with the Analytics pane: reference lines and bands, trend lines, forecasting, clustering, and box plots.
- Use parameters (what-if inputs and measure/dimension swaps), sets (dynamic top-N or condition-based, IN/OUT, set actions), groups, and bins to slice and compare.
Domain 3: Create Content
- Match the chart to the question: bars for comparison, lines for trends over time, scatter for correlation, histograms for distribution, maps for geography, and dual-axis or combo charts to compare measures.
- Show Me suggests chart types and indicates the fields each one needs.
- The Marks card sets the mark type and the Color, Size, Label, Detail, Tooltip, Shape, and Angle properties; a field on Detail adds granularity without an axis.
- Discrete fields create headers and panes while continuous fields create axes, so placement on Rows and Columns changes the view.
- Build a dual-axis chart and use Synchronize Axis to align two measures on one pair of axes.
- Use Measure Names and Measure Values to show several measures in one view.
- Maps use geographic roles and latitude/longitude; choose filled (choropleth) maps for regions and symbol maps for points, and add map layers or custom territories.
- Assemble dashboards from sheets using tiled or floating objects and layout containers; add text, image, web page, navigation, and Show/Hide objects.
- Add interactivity with dashboard actions - Filter, Highlight, Go to URL, Go to Sheet, Parameter, and Set actions - triggered on hover, select, or menu.
- Format at the worksheet or workbook level, edit tooltips (including Viz in Tooltip), add annotations, and build Stories from sequential story points.
Domain 4: Publish and Manage Content on Tableau Server and Tableau Online
- Publish workbooks and data sources from Tableau Desktop into a project, choosing whether to embed external files and credentials.
- Publish a data source as a single source of truth so multiple workbooks reuse it; certify it so users see the certified badge.
- Schedule extract refreshes (full or incremental) on Tableau Cloud or Server, and use Tableau Bridge to refresh on-premises data for Tableau Cloud.
- Manage access with the permissions model: projects, groups, users, and permission rules whose capabilities (View, Filter, Download, Web Edit, Save) can be allowed or denied.
- Site roles (Creator, Explorer, Viewer) determine what a user can do, from full authoring down to viewing published content.
- Share views and workbooks, save custom views, and add favorites so people find content quickly.
- Set up subscriptions (emailed snapshots on a schedule) and data-driven alerts (triggered when a continuous measure crosses a threshold).

- Weight your prep toward Explore and Analyze Data (41%) and Create Content (26%) - together two-thirds of the exam. Be fluent with calculated fields, LOD expressions, table calculations, filters, parameters and sets, chart choices, the Marks card, and dashboards.
- Nail the three calculation types and when each changes: a FIXED LOD is independent of the view's dimensions, an aggregate follows the view, and a table calculation depends on the layout and Compute Using direction. Being able to predict which number changes when you add a dimension or re-sort is heavily tested.
- Memorize the filter order of operations (extract, data source, context, dimension, FIXED LOD, measure, table calc). It explains why a context filter is needed for a correct Top N and how FIXED interacts with filters.

Is there a hands-on lab, and can I practice it here?
Yes. One section is a hands-on lab where you complete tasks directly in Tableau, graded automatically.
