Set your target above the raw pass line, not at it. If a domain needs, say, a comfortable margin to feel safe, aim for that margin in every domain before you consider yourself ready. Exam-day nerves, unfamiliar wording, and a couple of genuinely hard items will erode your live score, so a cushion is not perfectionism, it is insurance. The loop is complete when no domain is sitting near the edge.
Step 7: Finish with full-length timed mocks
Clearing every domain in isolation is necessary but not sufficient. The real exam mixes domains, adds time pressure, and drains your focus over an hour or more. So the last phase is full-length, timed practice that draws across the whole blueprint at once.

A worked example
Consider a candidate preparing for a four-domain exam. Their baseline attempt comes back at 71 percent overall, which looks tantalizingly close to a pass. The per-domain breakdown tells a different story:
- Domain A (weight 20 percent): 84 percent readiness. Strong.
- Domain B (weight 15 percent): 80 percent readiness. Strong.
- Domain C (weight 40 percent): 58 percent readiness. Weak, and it is the heaviest domain on the exam.
- Domain D (weight 25 percent): 70 percent readiness. Borderline.
The naive move is to keep practicing broadly and watch the 71 percent climb. But the ranking by readiness-and-weight is unambiguous: Domain C is both the weakest and by far the heaviest, so it is the entire priority. Every hour spent on Domains A and B is nearly wasted, because they are already safe and only worth 35 percent combined. A focused pass lifts Domain D into the target range, and a final touch-up brings Domain C up to a comfortable margin. Only then do they run full timed mocks. The overall score that started at a fragile 71 is now a durable pass, and the difference was not more studying, it was studying the right 65 percent of the exam and largely ignoring the safe 35 percent.
Common mistakes that waste the method
- Chasing the overall percentage. The blended number is the thing the exam does not reward. If your overall is rising but your weakest heavy domain is not, you are making the illusion prettier, not getting safer.
- Over-practicing strong domains. It feels good to answer questions correctly, so people gravitate to the domains they already know. Every rep on a safe domain is a rep stolen from the one that will fail you.
- Ignoring blueprint weight. Pouring hours into a low-weight domain because its score looks scary, while a bigger, equally weak domain sits untouched, is a common and expensive error. Always weigh the readiness gap against how much of the exam it represents.
- Mistaking one good run for mastery. A single strong attempt can be a lucky draw of familiar questions. Confirm with a fresh re-measure before you declare a domain fixed, and be suspicious of a big jump that came from too few questions.
- Skipping the re-measure entirely. Drilling without re-testing means you are trusting your feelings about progress instead of measuring it. The re-measure is not optional; it is the feedback that steers the whole loop.
- Stopping at the pass line instead of above it. Landing a domain exactly at the minimum leaves no room for exam-day friction. Build a cushion.
